NBC + Jay Leno = the worst.

8 Jan

According to Gothamist and various other sources, it looks like Jay Leno will be restored to his 11:30 time slot once the Olympics are over because he is murdering NBC’s ratings at 10pm.

Wait a minute, you’re saying, I thought Conan O’Brien had a show at 11:30? Not anymore. It appears Conan is being offered a 12am start time, and Jimmy Fallon will be pushed back to 1am. (Carson Daly, presumably, will finally fade into the mist of infomericals and soft-core porn.)

The first episode of The Jay Leno Show had high ratings and then rapidly declined; people probably stopped watching not because it’s weird to watch a talk show at 10, but because it was a piece of trash. Unfunny, sad trash. Obviously, I think Jay Leno is the worst. Sorry to anyone who thinks he’s actually funny and deserves a place on television, but at this point, I don’t know why NBC is treating him like such a prince when he’s to blame for the ratings decline of an entire time slot and several shows (not to mention the cancellation (and subsequent pick-up by TNT) of Southland). I know Conan hasn’t been getting great ratings at 11:30 either, but that’s what happens when your lead-in is a piece of unfunny sad trash: you get ratings just as bad.

If Conan doens’t take the 12am time slot (because it’s bullshit and at this point, fuck NBC, you know?), hopefully he’ll get an offer from another network, because he deserves to be treated better.

I’ll leave you with this quote from Gary Busey, who is absolutely nuts but can see what NBC can’t:

Conan may make fun of me, but at least he’s funny. Jay Leno hasn’t told a joke in 15 years.

I love Conan and really don’t like Leno at all. I don’t get why he’s such a big deal. I totally agree with Gary Busey.

I bet that’s something you never thought you’d say.
